Captain Clyde's Safety Pin #9: Make Wind Safety a Breeze

Today's Safety Sunday Tip is: Make Wind Safety a Breeze

The wind energy industry is the fastest-growing segment of renewable energy production. Both wind turbine installation and turbine maintenance are high-risk tasks, and safety considerations must be the main priority.

It's important for our team to know that OSHA has identified the turbine area as a permit-required confined space. As a result, our employees must:

  • 1.Have confined space training. See GRIT course materials if you haven't already completed it.
  • 2.Utilize a portable gas monitor and test the atmosphere before entering a confined space.
  • 3.Verify that our employee's portable gas detectors are in good working order.
  • 4.Always test for oxygen levels.
  • 5.Continue to perform gas check for flammable or toxic gases.
  • 6.Use a gas monitor that has multi-sensors for audible, visual, and tactilely.

As wind energy continues to grow in the United States and beyond, we will be regularly investing in workplace and safety training so that each and every employee understands how to protect themselves from these hazards on the job.

Be anchored to safety and make wind safety a breeze.
